town of Tenby in Pembrokeshire, what to do and see, when on holiday or short
week-end break.Tenby mostly is geared up for the visitor/holiday
trade most of the big houses overlooking the beach areas around Tenby
are now hotels,guest houses and bed and breakfast establishments but some
recently have been converted into flats.Tenby has four beaches known as the South,Castle,Harbour and the North beach, the
North beach has over the last couple of years has proudly displaying the Blue
flag which is given for good sea quality it also hosts the boxing day swim which
is very well surpported by people giving to charities but the swimmers
must take the most praise as for going into the freezing water.The big rock that stands out on the beach is known as gosar rock.

next this is the smallest beach but it may be close to the Castle beach, the R.N.L.I inshore inflatable boat is based near the mayor slip and is crewed by local
fishermen,pleasure boat crews and locals,the Sea Cadets HQ and

also nice little cafe there as well,walk up the hill pass the Harbour masters
office throught the arch and you will see the Castle beach also nice cafe
here,when you are on the beach you will see St Catherine's fort it was used in
defence of Tenby,carry on walking you will see the Paragon and South beaches all
of Tenby Beaches are very good for fishing also try the boat
fishing,The South beach backs on to Tenby Golf links,If you
have a spare bit of time have a walk around the Castle hill it is a grassed area
with cannons emplacements around it,a band-stand which is used in the summer
months,the old coast guard house which is lived in,they is also a watch tower
which is a small part of Tenby castle which is still standing the
statue is of Prince Albert. He was born on 1819 and died in 1861 the
statue was opened in 1865,Tenby Museum is also based on Castle hill founded
in 1878, permanent displays include archaeology, geology, the natural,
maritime and social history of the town and south Pembrokeshire. Exhibits
include maritime display, seashore and shell collections, Tenby pirate's cell,
Victorian Antiquarian's Study, Medical Hall Chemist Shop.As you carry on with
your walk around Castle Hill you will see the NEW Tenby lifeboat
station it houses the Tamar class of boat.To see a live web

The Tudor Merchants House was built in the 15th Century, and
still furnished and decorated with authentic Tudor fittings, it has a Small
garden dedicated to plants and herbs used during Tudor times, Tenby's Tudor
Merchants House successfully illustrates the lifestyle of a successful Tudor
family. It's the oldest Furnished residence in Tenby and is owned and run by the
National Trust. Located on Quay Hill between Tudor Square and the
Harbour.

Tenby at one time was voted in the top five places to be on a Stag/Hen party some great pubs here like Tenby House Hotel ,the Lifeboat Tavern,3 mariners,Hope and Anchor,The buccaneer and many more,Some quality Restaurants to eat in,and the good old fish and chips shops all within the town walls.
St Mary's Church is also in the town walls built in the 13th to the 15th centuries when Tenby was a flourishing medieval port.The 13th Century chancel has a fine ‘wagon’ roof. The panelled ceiling has 75 bosses carved with a variety of foliage designs, grotesques, fishes and even a mermaid St Thomas’ chapel was added in the mid-15th century and contains several notable memorials including an elaborate tomb with effigies of Thomas White and his son John both of whom were local merchants and mayors of Tenby in the 15th century,There is also a wall tablet in memory of Robert Recorde, an Elizabethan scholar, who introduced the equals sign ( = ) to mathmetical calculation.
The street names and map of Tenby.If the sun is shinning take a walk to Sutton Street where Tenby Bowling Club is based,sit around the green which is flat not the crown bowling, benches are all around the green so just sit there soaking up the sun watching the bowling, or have a go at the 18 hole putting course then enjoy afternoon tea in the club house or soft drinks and ice-creams from the kiosk, and later for drinks upstairs.
The car parking situation in Tenby is that there are five car parks, two which are on the Green in Tenby, One by the New Cottage Hospital which is located in Butts field, a Multi storey car park in Tenby itself and rectory car park which over looks the South beach caldey Island and giltar point good for the coastal walks,the ones at the Green and Butt's Field Pembrokeshire county Council run a park and ride from,Most of the streets in Tenby now have residental parking bays.
Tenby is a small medieval seaside town with an average population of approximately 6,000 but the summer month that increase dramatically, most staying in caravan park the biggest of which is Kiln park / Lydstep haven which has it own club houses,shops etc.
During the summer months the centre of Tenby is pedestrianised in order that the visitors experience the freedom to roam the streets and it improve the safety in the town centre, as the cafes Restaurants etc place tables and chairs in the road for people to enjoy the out door cafe culture like aboard As a result Pembrokeshire County Council introduced a Park and Ride scheme in the town. They have two16-seated minibuses (one wheelchair accessible) that ferry visitors from the long-stay car park situated at North Beach "" Butts Field "" car park, into the town centre, and down to the Harbour.
